2008.05 | U.S. Southwest | Driving the 2008 Cadillac CTS
There are many reasons that the 2008 Cadillac CTS was chosen to be Motor Trend's 2008 Car of the Year, but it really comes down to one thing - the CTS is a great car.
By May 2008, I had been working on the Cadillac interactive account at Modernista for just over. Despite the fact that the launch of the all-new 2008 CTS had been our primary focus during that time, I had been too busy to take the time to drive one. When we started planning our vacation in Las Vegas and the U.S. Southwest, it occurred to me that this would be the perfect opportunity to finally put one to the test.
We had to take a 20 minute taxi ride out to the only rental agency in the city that had one available, but it was well worth the effort, because the CTS is by far the best car I've ever driven.
It got looks as we cruised the Strip in Las Vegas, powered effortlessly along the lonely highways stretching out to the Grand Canyon, and showed off its sporty side on the twisting roads that wind down into Death Valley. The car photographs well from every angle, and looks just as comfortable pulling up to the front door of a luxury hotel, as it does beside the road in the middle of the desert. I was amazed at how quickly I became attached to my classy red devil, and how difficult it was to part with the keys when our time together came to an end.
You can count on seeing further chapters in my Cadillac story here in the future.
